Paris: A poll says French President Nicolas
Sarkozy`s approval ratings have reached a new low of 26 per
cent amid tensions over raising the retirement age and
scandals involving government ministers.
The TNS-Sofres poll says 71 per cent of respondents do
not have confidence in the president, up four percentage
points from a similar poll a month ago. Three per cent of
people expressed no opinion.
Since then, workers have gone on strike twice and staged
nationwide protests over government plans to raise the
retirement age from 60 to 62, still one of Europe`s lowest.
Meanwhile, Sarkozy`s labour minister has been implicated
