London: A Scottish-born girl who had gone to Syria to join Islamist militants recently asked Muslims in Britain to bring the 'battlefield' home.
As per reports in a British daily, the case of Glasgow-born Aqsa Mahmood, 20, was confirmed by police and security services.
As per reports, she abandoned a university course in 2013 to join militants fighting in Syria and got married thereafter and had been tweeting some radical messages.
She had reportedly asked people to follow the example of the September 2014 murder of British soldier Lee Rigby and the April 2013 Boston Marathon bombing in the United States.
She had also asked people to emulate April 2014 shooting at the Fort Hood US Army base in Texas.
“Follow the example of your Brothers from Woolwich, Texas and Boston,” she had tweeted.
In another tweet she had said, “Jihad is not limited to Shaam (Syria), Khurasan, East Africa, Yemen. It is a worldwide battle against Kufr (infidels).”
One more tweet read as follows - “If you cannot make it to the battlefield, then bring the battlefield to yourself.”
And her post on the micro blogging site on August 26 said - “Read up on how many people reverted to Islam after 9/11. You can plot and plan but you will never extinguish the Light of Islam.”
Mahmood's profile is said to have carried a picture of the black flag of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) or the Islamic State.
Media reports have claimed that around 500 British citizens are believed to have joined militant groups such as ISIS and have have gone to places like Syria.
When US journalist James Foley was recently executed, it was said to be at the hands of a Britain-born ISIS militant.
It is also said that Mahmood’s family and friends were shocked after getting to know about her involvement with extremist elements.
Regarding her background, her father moved from Pakistan to Scotland and set up a successful business there, as per the daily.
Mahmood is said to have studied at Craigholme School which is considered exclusive. It is also said that she was a westernised girl as per her friends.
However, later in life she is reported to have became more interested in Islam and had began wearing the hijab.
But there are no confirmation whether individuals like Mahmood took part in any of Islamic State’s front-line activities.
