Seif Gaddafi’s arrest was never confirmed: ICC

An International Criminal Court spokesman said that court never received official confirmation from Libya`s rebel authorities about Seif`s arrest.

The Hague: An International Criminal Court spokesman said that the court never received official confirmation from Libya`s rebel authorities that they had arrested Gaddafi’s son Seif during their lightning push into Tripoli.

The court`s prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo spoke to reporters in the early hours of Monday morning to report that rebels had arrested Seif. At the time, he declined to reveal his sources.

However, Seif al-Islam appeared — free and defiant — early Tuesday at a Tripoli hotel housing foreign journalists. He boasted that his father`s regime still has control in Tripoli and will crush the rebellion.

Court spokesman Fadi El Abdallah said rebels never officially confirmed Seif`s arrest. The court`s prosecutor made no comment.
