Maiduguri: Two bombs exploded at a wedding venue in northeast Nigeria on Friday, killing seven and injuring dozens more, a witness and security sources said.

Witnesses said the blasts happened at about 6:00 am local time in the Tashan Alade area of Borno state, when families and friends of the bride and groom gathered to witness the ceremony.

Tashan Alade has previously been hit by Boko Haram Islamists but it was not immediately clear if the group was responsible.

"Seven dead bodies were picked from the scene," said witness Almu Mukhtar. "Over 30 people also sustained injuries and fire also destroyed two houses near the scene."

A civilian vigilante in the area, Mato Makatara said one suspect has been arrested and handed over to the police for questioning.

"It seems the bombs were planted near the scene of the wedding and probably detonated by a remote control. We would get to know the truth after interrogating the suspect," he added.

A security source in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, confirmed the incident but said details were sketchy.
