Sister says no word from Chinese police on artist
Ai Weiwei is the most prominent target so far in China`s massive crackdown.
Beijing: The sister of a detained Chinese artist says police have still not told the family where he is being held or why, nearly a week after he was grabbed at a Beijing airport.
Gao Ge said on Saturday that when she visited her local police station, officers told her they had no news on Ai Weiwei`s case.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Thursday that Ai, a prominent artist and activist who was detained on April 03, was being investigated for economic crimes.
Ai is the most prominent target so far in China`s massive crackdown on dozens of lawyers, writers and activists following online calls for protests similar to those in the Middle East and North Africa. No major protests have occurred in China following the calls.
