Six killed in road accident in Nigeria

Six people, including a top police officer, were killed in a road accident in Nigeria.

Abuja: Six people, including a top police
officer, were killed in a road accident in Nigeria`s Bauchi
state.

The police commissioner of Nigeria`s northern state
of Kebbi, Dalhatu Saad, and five others died in the accident
along Jamaare road near Sabon Gari yesterday.

"The accident occurred in the night around 1.25 am,"
Bauchi state sector commander of Federal Road Safety
Commission (FRSC), Zakariyya Mamman said, adding that one
person was injured in the accident.

FRSC said four vehicles were involved in the accident.
Nigerian roads are replete with potholes which make
observance of traffic rules often difficult.

Vehicles overtake from both sides rather than observe
the conventional left hand side overtaking thereby causing
frequent accidents.

In 2010 alone, the FRSC reported that 472 persons lost
their lives in road accidents across the country.
