SKorea to dismiss officers over marine shooting

Officers say they are questioning a corporal who allegedly shot his colleagues on Yellow Sea island.

Seoul: South Korea`s Marine Corps plans to dismiss two commanding officers for failing to prevent last week`s shooting rampage that killed four marines at a front-line base.

A marine official said Sunday that a colonel and a lieutenant colonel at the Ganghwa Island base will be dismissed in the next few days and may face further penalties when the investigation into the July 4 shooting ends.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity citing office policy.

Officials say they are questioning a corporal who allegedly shot his colleagues on the Yellow Sea island.

Claims of abuse among marines emerged following the shooting. Officials say the corporal had shown signs of mental illness.
