Soldier flies to Britain for Princess Diana`s murder probe

London: Scotland Yard will be questioning a former British soldier who claims his unit had conspired to murder Princess Diana after he returned to Britain this week.

Soldier N, as he is known to hide his identity, came out of hiding in the Middle East and flew in to Britain for the inquiry, the `Sunday Mirror` claimed. The former sergeant is believed to have fled to the Gulf just before he was due to be questioned over his allegations about the Special Air Service (SAS). Soldier N reportedly told his wife an SAS squad flashed a light to blind Diana`s driver in Paris in 1997 and caused her death-crash a technique developed to combat terrorists. The Metropolitan police had confirmed it was looking into the latest allegations last month and it is being led by Detective Chief Inspector Philip Easton. The Met also wants to quiz the 38-year-old about claims he had later smuggled thousands of pounds of stolen money into Britain after serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. It is believed he fled to the United Arab Emirates, where there is a large British ex-military community. Soldier N`s claims about the Princess of Wales were first sent to Scotland Yard in July after the court-martial of SAS sniper Danny Nightingale. Both men had been arrested in 2011 when police raided the house they shared and found illegal guns and ammunition. Soldier N, who was mentioned in despatches for his heroic actions defending a UN convoy after it came under fire during the Bosnian conflict in 1995, was given two years` detention for his part. News of Soldier N`s return to Britain follows claims by a former MI6 agent that many secret service officers believe the UK government ordered Princess Diana`s murder. PTI
