Somali pirates release Turkish ship: Report

Maltese-flagged Turkish cargo ship Frigia was hijacked four months earlier.

Istanbul: Somali pirates have released the Turkish cargo ship Frigia four months after the vessel was hijacked and all 21 crew are safe and healthy, a lawyer for the ship`s operator said on Thursday.

The Maltese-flagged ship was seized off the Indian coast with a crew of 19 Turks and two Ukrainians on March 23.

"The captain told us all personnel...were very happy and excited after the recent developments and that everybody was healthy and safe," lawyer Nilgun Yamaner told state-run Anatolian news agency.
The ship was released at 7.25 am Turkish time (0425 GMT) and was sailing to meet the Turkish frigate Gelibolu off the coast of Somalia, she said. The Turkish Maritime Undersecretariat said it would head to the Oman port of Salalah.
