Nairobi: The European Union`s anti-piracy
force says Somali pirates have hijacked a Greek-owned ship
with 26 crew members, including an Indian.
The Liberian-flagged MV Eleni P was headed to India
when pirates seized it 250 nautical miles off the coast of
Oman today morning in the Indian Ocean.
The EU Naval Force says the crew consists of 23
Filipinos, two Romanians and 1 Indian. They are reported to be
safe.

At least 20 vessels are being held by Somali
pirates. Somalia`s 19 years of lawlessness has allowed piracy
to flourish. Pirates are earning multi-million dollar ransoms
from successful hijackings.
