Sri Lanka allows security to ex-Army chief Fonseka Colombo: Former Sri Lankan Army chief Sarath Fonseka has been provided with security by the government just weeks after being freed from jail.

A police team led by an Inspector has been assigned to Fonseka on the instructions of the police chief.

Fonseka, who was in jail serving several sentences, was freed late last month under a pardon granted by the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

He was jailed by a military court and the high court for two separate offences. He is also attending court on another case.

Since his release, the former Army chief who was credited with leading the Army to victory over the LTTE has not taken any active political role.

He remains the leader of the opposition Democratic National Alliance (DNA).

Without the right and bold political leadership of President Rajapakse and Mr. Gotabaya Rajapakse`s experience, Mr. Fonseka couldnt achive this. It is unbelievable how Sri Lankans have forgotten the bloody terrorism we faced for 30 yesrs. If it was not President Rajapakse`s political leadership, Fonseka or any Army wouldnt do a thing. Nno doubt tht his military leadership was important.

We became the laughing stock among the democratic World after his illegal arrest, continuous fabricated charges, and the use of Kangaroo Courts to incarcerate him, and the corrupt leaders dine and dance with the LTTE Terrorists. This is the biggest mistake the corrupt Regime made, and finally due to International and internal pressure, and for their own survival had to release him. The entire World is aware that he is not involved in corruption or war crimes levelled against the corrupt Regime. Before long the entire World will find out who the real Patriot and the Crooks are. God save former democratic Sri Lanka.

“democratic World”??? Ha! Ha!! Ha!!! That statement is laughing stock! You mean the part of the world that committed massacres like My Lai, Jallianwala Bagh (and perpetrators were never punished)? ... lied to the world and took the entire world to war in Iraq resulting around 2 million Iraqi deaths? ... couldn’t perform a transparent inquiry into how Lady Diana died? ... the list is long! What a “democratic World”!! If you look carefully, note that SF has changed his tune. When he was arrested, he was thinking that he can join international criminals (who call themselves international community) with lies against Sri Lanka and its army that he led. Now he has realised that the world is much more complex than “I order you mongoose (mugatiya) and you just do as I ordered”, and as a result of such understanding, he is free.
