A strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Taiwan early on Saturday, the US Geological Survey said.

Taipei: A strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake struck southern Taiwan early on Saturday, the US Geological Survey said.

The shallow quake struck around 2000 GMT Friday, 25 kilometres (16 miles) south of Yujing, USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said a destructive pacific-wide tsunami was not expected.
