Strong typhoon leaves 4 dead in Philippines

Slow-moving Typhoon Muifa is blowing away from the northern Philippines.

Manila: A powerful typhoon is blowing away from the northern Philippines after leaving at least four people dead despite not making landfall.

Office of Civil Defence chief Benito Ramos says slow-moving Typhoon Muifa was packing sustained winds of 108 miles (175 kilometres) per hour and gusts of 130 mph (210 kph) as it blew away from northern Luzon Island`s eastern coast on Monday toward southern Taiwan and Japan.

Ramos says two fish-pond workers drowned when their boat overturned north of Manila and two children died in a landslide amid fierce rain and wind in a sand quarrying site in central Bohol province over the weekend.
Muifa roared toward the Philippines on Thursday as Tropical Storm Nock-ten was blowing out after leaving 57 people dead.
