Sudan: No changes to 2011 border with south Khartoum: Sudan's President Omar al-Bashir says his country will only resolve a border dispute with South Sudan by adhering to the UN-brokered agreement by which the south gained its independence last year.

Khartoum says it plans to participate in African Union-sponsored talks with South Sudan beginning Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Negotiations broke up earlier this month when the two sides disagreed over the location of a line to be the basis of a demilitarized zone.

Bashir's remarks today were quoted by the official SUNA news agency. The two countries fought each other earlier this year near the disputed border.

South Sudan has used evidence from the British colonial period to press its claim. South Sudan gained independence from Sudan in June 2011 after decades of civil war.
