Tehran: Iran`s media says the Mayor of Tehran
has ordered a lawsuit to be filed contesting the ownership of
the land on which Britain`s embassy stands. The move comes
amid escalating tensions between Tehran and London.
The semi-official Mehr news agency on Monday quoted Tehran
mayor Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf as saying he has ordered the
case to be submitted to the judiciary.
Iranian hardliners have in the past charged Britain with
illegal occupation of the land on which its embassy has stood
from the 19th century, but this is the first time that an
official has raised the case.
Earlier in September Iran detained and summoned a group
of people for their alleged links to BBC`s Farsi-language
service. Tehran accuses London of fomenting unrest in Iran, a
charge Britain denies.
