Beijing: At least 1.2 million people in Tibet out of total population of 3 million are internet users, official data have said.

Tibet has set up a telecommunications network that covers all its cities, counties and towns, as well as its major transport routes and scenic spots.

The number of Internet users reached 1.2 million in 2010 in Tibet, which has a population of three million, according to statistics at an ongoing exhibition marking the 60th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet.

The volume of Tibet's telecommunications services totalled 20.3 billion yuan (USD3.13 billion) with a total revenue of 9.1 billion yuan for the 11th Five-Year Plan period (2006-2010).

The number of telephone service subscribers in Tibet reached 2.01 million in 2010, covering 70 per cent of the region's population, Xinhua reported.
