Twelve foreign sailors kidnapped by pirates: Nigeria

Acts of piracy are continuing to grow in the Gulf of Guinea.

Lagos: A Nigerian naval spokesman says 12 expatriate sailors have been kidnapped off the coast of the West African nation`s restive delta.

Commodore David Nabaida said that the attack occurred just after 8 pm on Friday. Nabaida says the pirates boarded the German-flagged BBC Palonia and shot one crew members in the leg during the attack.

Nabaida says the Nigerian Navy took control of the attacked ship and now are searching for those responsible.
The attack comes as acts of piracy continue to grow in the Gulf of Guinea, especially along Nigeria`s coastline.
