Paris: French police say investigators have successfully extracted DNA from two bodies salvaged from the wreckage of an Air France flight that crashed into the Atlantic — raising the prospect they might be identified.
France`s gendarmerie said in a statement on Wednesday that police forensic experts on board the Ile-de-Sein search ship will work to retrieve the bodies "in the greatest dignity" once it arrives at the crash site.
Search teams retrieved tissue samples from two bodies earlier this month. French officials had previously said the bodies were too degraded and would not be brought up.
Accident investigators are now examining the retrieved flight recorders from Flight 447 to try to explain why the flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris went down June 01, 2009, killing all 228 people aboard.
