Paris: Two French nationals were arrested in Tunisia earlier this month on their way to join militant camps in Libya before travelling to Syria, Xinhua reported on Monday.

The two men, aged 19 and 20, were arrested near Tunisia`s southern border with Libya where they want to join training camps before heading to Syria to fight along with Islamic State (IS) terrorists.

They were handed over to French authorities on November 13.

Last week, French President Francois Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi stressed the urgent need to step up international efforts to battle the IS in Libya where the chaos and political vacuum helped the terrorist cell to advance.

France has been the target of terrorist cells` attacks following its military offensive in Mali, Iraq and Syria. The Vigipirate security system has been put at the highest level since the Charlie Hebdo series of attacks in January 2015.

A second wave of terrorist explosions and shootings rocked the eurozone` second leading power earlier this months, killing 130 people in the attacks claimed by the IS.
