Jerusalem: Two Israeli soldiers were wounded on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire at them from Egypt`s Sinai peninsula, the Israeli army said.

"Two IDF (Israel Defence Forces) soldiers were wounded in a cross-border attack from Egypt," army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Peter Lerner said, without specifying their conditions.

The incident took place close to the centre of Israel`s 150-mile (240-kilometre) border with the Egyptian Sinai, public radio said.
