Two killed as aircraft overshoots runway in Moscow

Two killed and 40 injured when passenger jet was making an emergency landing.

Moscow: At least two persons were killed and 40 injured when a passenger jet, making an emergency landing, overshot the runway and hit an obstacle on the ground before disintegrating at an airport here.

The Tupolev Tu-154 passenger jet had 168 people on board, including 8 crew members when all three of its engines failed soon after take off from Moscow`s another Vnukovo airport.

The Daghestan Airlines jet was on a flight to Makhachkala -- the capital of Caucasus Republic of Daghestan -- and was forced to make an emergency landing at Moscow`s Domodedovo airport, emergency situations ministry officials said.
Shortly after takeover from Vnukovo airport, south-west of Moscow, all the three engines of the aircraft failed and the pilot decided to make an emergency landing at the nearest Domodedovo airport, 80 km away in south-east of the Russian capital.
The authorities have launched a high-level probe into the air incident.
