Abuja: A bomb went off at a bus stop in
Nigeria`s northern city of Maiduguri, killing two persons,
police said.

Two men aged 25 and 27 were killed on the spot when
the bomb planted at the bus stop went off last night.

The spokesman for Borno State police command, Lawal
Abdullahi said they suspected members of the hardline Islamic
sect Boko Haram may have planted the explosives.

The group has claimed responsibility for several
attacks in the town and elsewhere in recent times and has
vowed to continue attacking politicians and security men.

Boko Haram also claimed a Christmas Eve bombing that
killed about a dozen persons in Nigeria`s capital Abuja last
year.

A northern state governor-elect promised offering
amnesty to the group but a person who claimed to be speaking
on their behalf rejected it.
