Two policemen killed by gunmen in Nigeria

Gunmen killed two policemen and injured two others on foot patrol.

Abuja: Gunmen killed two policemen and
injured two others on foot patrol Thursday in Nigeria`s northern
city of Kano, official said today, as security was stepped up
in the insurgency hit region.

"The incident happened along Bayero University Kano
(BUK) road in Kano metropolis. The attacked happened in the
morning around 8.30 am, while the shot policemen died on the
spot," police spokesman, Musa Magaji Majiya said.

According to him fifteen (15) suspects have been
arrested and the area was thoroughly combed.

Residents said on phone that police helicopters
have been hovering around the city while heavy traffic ensued
due to increased checkpoints and searching of vehicles.

On Wednesday, four suspected members of the
fundamentalist Islamic sect, Boko Haram were arrested at at
Tishama area of Hotoro at the outskirt of Kano metropolis.

On January 20, multiple bomb and gun attacks by the
group led to the death of 185 people in the city regarded as
the second largest in the Africa`s top oil producer.
