UAE banks asked to freeze assets of 19 Libyans Dubai: The United Arab Emirates central bank has ordered a freeze on the assets of 19 Libyan figures under UN sanctions against Moamer Gaddafi's regime, the Gulf state's official WAM news agency announced on Monday.

"The central bank ordered banks, companies and financial institutions to freeze the assets of 19 Libyan figures in line with the terms of UN Security Council resolutions 1970 and 1973," the agency said.

Abdel Rahim al-Awadi, a senior bank official quoted by WAM, said the central bank was gathering information on the assets and accounts of the unnamed 19 Libyan figures.
