Dubai: The United Arab Emirates says Canadians will soon need to get a visa before travelling to the Persian Gulf nation.
The new requirement announced by the UAE`s embassy in Ottawa comes amid an increasingly bitter spat between the two countries centered on landing rights for Emirati airliners.
Previously Canadians, like travellers from the US, much of Europe and a number of other countries, were able to obtain a free visa on arrival.
Representatives for the UAE government couldn`t be reached for comment.
Canada`s consul general in Dubai referred questions to the country`s foreign affairs department, which wasn`t immediately available to comment.
The visa rule takes effect January 2.
