Riyadh: United Arab Emirates officials
seized a fishing vessel and detained the 11 Asian fishermen
who were on board for working illegally in UAE waters, the
Saudi Gazette reported Sunday.
The 11, based in the eastern Saudi city Qatif and whose
nationalities were not given, said they did not know they had
crossed into the UAE`s Gulf waters, the report said.
The detentions were part of an increasing number of
arrests over maritime territorial violations in the southern
Gulf by Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE, whose offshore boundaries
can be complicated and easily crossed by mistake.
The newspaper said that Qatar detained for over one month
more than 40 Indian fishermen working out of Qatif for
crossing into Qatari waters.
