London: British Prime Minister David Cameron has met with the King of Jordan but given no indication the two found a solution to the stalled deportation of a radical Islamist cleric.

Britain has attempted since 2001 to remove Abu Qatada, allegedly a key al Qaeda operative in Europe, to stand trial in Jordan. The cleric was convicted in his absence in Jordan over terror plots.

But the UK has been repeatedly thwarted by European and British courts.

The British government is challenging a ruling that blocked the extradition because of concerns the cleric would not receive a fair trial in Jordan.

Cameron's office said after Tuesday's talks that the Prime Minister and King Abdullah were committed to work together to resolve the matter.
