Tehran: Iran's foreign ministry dismissed
today as "theatrical and useless" a UN atomic watchdog
resolution which censured Tehran over its nuclear programme,
state news agency IRNA reported.
Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast "branded the
issuing of the resolution as ... a theatrical move aimed as
pressuring Iran and described such behaviour as useless," IRNA
said.
"We do not deem it necessary to fully carry out (our)
commitments to the agency if Iran's basic rights as a member
of the (nuclear) Non-Proliferation Treaty are not met," he
said, without elaborating.
"This resolution is a test for independent and
non-aligned countries on how to pursue their rights more
carefully."
Earlier on Friday, the International Atomic Energy Agency
censured Iran and demanded it immediately halt construction of
a newly revealed uranium enrichment plant.
Iran insists it has a right to enrich uranium to make
nuclear fuel as a signatory of the treaty and vehemently
denies allegations that its atomic programme has military
aims.
