UN chief greets Chinese people on lunar new year

The Spring Festival is the most important Chinese traditional holiday, highlighting family reunions and renewal of seasons.

New York: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Wednesday wished Chinese people a happy lunar new year, or the Spring Festival, which falls on Friday.

In a video message, Ban said "Happy Lunar New Year" in Mandarin language.
"I send my best wishes to all of you and your loved ones as we celebrate the year of the Horse," Xinhua quoted the UN chief as saying. "And I wish you health, happiness and success in the coming year."

He also expressed his gratitude towards the Chinese people. "The United Nations is honoured to work closely with Chinese people across our shared agenda of peace, development and human rights. I thank you for your commitment and contribution."
In his message, Ban wished everyone a speedy success in the year of Horse as he said "Ma Dao Cheng Gong" in Mandarin Chinese.
