United Nations: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has reappointed Anthony Lake to head the UN children`s agency.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced today that Ban made the decision after consultations with the executive board of the United Nations Children`s Fund known as UNICEF.
Lake, a foreign policy expert who was an adviser to President Barack Obama, has been executive director of UNICEF since May 1, 2010.
Dujarric said Ban expressed appreciation for UNICEF`s results, especially in helping the most disadvantaged children.
Lake said in a statement that he was honored to be reappointed and "very glad" to continue working with UNICEF "for the children we all serve."
Lake joined the US Foreign Service in 1962, did two tours in Vietnam, worked on several Democratic presidential campaigns, and became President Bill Clinton`s national security adviser.
