Houston: A Dallas policeman has been hospitalised with Ebola symptoms after he visited the apartment of Thomas Duncan, first victim of the virus, unprotected.

Sgt Michael Monnig went to an urgent-care facility in Frisco, Texas with his wife, after complaining of stomach problems.

The policeman visited the clinic after he went to the apartment where Duncan was staying when he developed Ebola symptoms.

Mr Duncan, 42, died on Wednesday morning at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, two weeks after developing symptoms of the virus.

Around 50 people who may have had contact with Duncan are being monitored by the US authorities for signs of Ebola. It is not known if the new patient is among the 50 people.
