Jerusalem: A diplomat says Israel will be allowed to complete construction of hundreds of homes in West Bank settlements under a new US-proposed settlement moratorium.
The US is pressing Israel to renew a settlement slowdown that expired in September in order to get stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace talks going again.
That original moratorium did not apply to some 3,000 apartments already under construction. The diplomat says the new three-month slowdown, if approved, would also not apply to those homes.
The diplomat spoke to a news agency on condition of anonymity on Monday because the details of the deal have not been finalised.
It`s unclear whether the Palestinians will accept the deal.
