Yangon: A United States embassy official says Washington`s special envoy to Myanmar has arrived for his second visit in two months.
The official says Derek Mitchell will press for the release of more political prisoners and discuss hostilities in ethnic minority areas among other issues during a two-day visit.
The official spoke on Monday on customary condition of anonymity.
Mitchell first travelled to Myanmar in September and his second trip comes after a series of recent government steps toward reform including the recent release of about 200 political prisoners.
The official said on Monday that Mitchell arrived in the main city of Yangon and would head soon to the administrative capital of Naypyitaw for talks with government officials.
