US man shot dead after killing one in Israel

Jerusalem: An American gunman was killed by anti-terror personnel after he shot dead a hotel employee in Eilat city of Israel, police said.

The 23-year-old gunman was reportedly from New York and was a former worker at the Israeli Leonardo Hotel, according to police. Although he has not been publicly identified yet.

The man opened multiple shots of fire at the hotel employee early Friday. Three others reportedly suffered from shock and they were admitted to Eilat's Joseftal Medical Center.

The police spokesman told BBC that the incident took place at Leonardo Club hotel, on the Red Sea coast.

The victim who succumbed to the fatal shots was reported to be an employee of the hotel who was working in the kitchen and he had a scuffle with one of his colleagues.

The Israeli radio announced that the shooter had grabbed a gun from a female security guard who tried to break up the fight.

The guests at the hotel were advised to remain inside their rooms as police and security forces were surrounding the hotel.

Soon after committing the crime, the man allegedly locked himself inside the kitchen and fired at police negotiators, until the Lotar anti-terror squad stormed in, killing him, police said.

The gunman was in Israel as part of the Ra'aninim international student exchange program, according to Israel Radio.
