US troubled with Iran`s progress in N- reactor construction

Iran has taken crucial step towards completing its IR-40 nuclear reactor in Arak heavy water facility but US feels concerned about their nuclear progress.

London: Iran has taken crucial step towards completing its IR-40 nuclear reactor in Arak heavy water facility but US feels concerned about their nuclear progress.

The heavy water reactor has been installed in central Iran and the workers have set up two containers on the reactor, which will help in producing medicines by 2014, reports CNN.

Deputy Director General of Iran Atomic Energy Organization, Fereidoun Abbasi is hopeful that all the necessary tests would be conducted to make sure of the reactor`s proper functioning so that it can be launched in 2014.

According to the report, US believes that Iran`s nuclear programmes are a threat and may be used to produce weapons.

US representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Joseph Macmanus, has expressed concerned about Iran`s intentions as it has refused to provide requisite reactor design information.

Macmanus said that Iran is not co-operating in providing the crucial details so that the IAEA is assured of absence of undeclared nuclear materials and activities because the heavy water reactor can be reprocessed to produce weapon-grade plutonium.
The report added that Iran says it has only peaceful intentions with the nuclear programme.
