US Vice President meets Emir of Qatar
Qatar is the only Arab state to participate in military operations in Libya.
Washington: The Emir of Qatar prepared for Thursday`s talks with President Barack Obama by meeting Vice President Joe Biden, and the two men discussed the historic turmoil shaking the Middle East.
Qatar was the only Arab state to participate in military operations in Libya despite the Arab League`s support for a no-fly zone to prevent Moamer Gaddafi from harming civilians.
In a telephone conversation with the emir last month, Obama said the deployment showed Qatar`s leadership role in the region.
On Wednesday, Biden also congratulated Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani on Qatar`s hosting of the Libya Contact Group meeting earlier on Wednesday, the White House said.
Biden and the emir "reaffirmed their support for the historic changes sweeping the region," a White House statement said.
"The Vice President reaffirmed the United States` commitment to regional security in the Gulf and thanked the emir for his country`s important support to US troops stationed in Qatar," the statement said.
