Washington: The release of US veteran of the Korean War, Merrill Newman, on Saturday by North Korea has brought praises from United States Vice President Joe Biden.

Biden, while commending Newman`s released, said that it`s a positive news. However, he also said that he played no direct role in securing his release.

Newman, an 85-year-old from California, is currently in Beijing and would fly to San Francisco soon. He was held on charges of hostile acts against N Korea while visiting as a tourist. On his release, he said that he is glad to be on his way to home.

Biden in fact offered him a ride over his plane, but the released American national opted for a direct flight between Beijing and California. Moreover, Joe also called on the North Korean government to release another US citizen Kenneth Bae, who has been held since November 2012 and who was sentenced in May to 15 years` hard labour.
