London: A witness has told Britain`s phone hacking trial that she overheard tabloid editor Rebekah Brooks and her rival, Piers Morgan, joking at a party about illegal eavesdropping.
Media lawyer Ambi Sitham said today that the pair exchanged pointed remarks at a birthday party.
She said Morgan told Brooks, "`I already know what your splash is, or your cover is, because I`ve been listening to messages.`"
Sitham said Morgan also joked with her about Brooks, "`Careful she`ll tap your phone.`"
Brooks was then editor of Rupert Murdoch`s Sun newspaper and Morgan edited the Daily Mirror. Brooks, former News of the World editor Andy Coulson and six others are on trial on hacking-related charges, which they deny.
Morgan, who faces no charges, has denied knowledge of phone hacking at his newspaper.
