San`a: A court in Yemen has sentenced
an al Qaeda militant to death after convicting him of
involvement in terror attacks and manufacturing explosives.
Saleh al-Shawish was arrested in February and later
charged with involvement in attacks on security facilities,
training would-be suicide bombers and bomb making.
After hearing today`s verdict, al-Shawish vowed that
al Qaeda will exact revenge on Yemen`s government.
Yemen is struggling to contain al Qaeda militants who
have recently expanded their operations from the capital San`a
and areas on the border with Saudi Arabia to the country`s
rebellious southern provinces.
Its fighters have recently turned to drive-by shootings
to kill top Yemeni intelligence and counter-terrorism
