Terror module: Police Commissioner`s plea to media for restraint

Bangalore City Police Commissioner B Jyotiprakash Mirji described as unfounded a report which said some terror suspects have been arrested in Bijapur.

Bangalore: Bangalore City Police Commissioner B Jyotiprakash Mirji on Monday requested the media to exercise restraint while publishing and telecasting "unverified" reports on the ongoing terror suspects investigations.
"The issue concerns national security, is also communally sensitive and should not vitiate law and order. I request the media to be more responsible and cooperate with police," he said, addressing editors of print and electronic media after some speculative reports appearing in a section of the media. He described as unfounded a report which said some terror suspects have been arrested in Bijapur. Mirji said he and Deputy Commissioners of Police have been giving information to the press on a regular basis, but reports quoting "sources" are still being published. He said journalists should not trust information coming from those not connected with investigations. If they identify the "sources" and rely on them for their reports, they should disclose their identities, he said, adding "we will take action against them". Mirji said police would also give blog updates for the media. PTI
