New Delhi: Noting that "dirty politics" is being played on Sarabjit Singh`s death, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Friday said all political parties should unite on the issue as the need of the hour is to rise above politics.
"Dirty politics is being played in the name of Sarabjit. There are allegations and counter allegations," Mayawati told reporters outside Parliament.
Terming the Indian prisoner`s death as "unfortunate", she said, "The need of the hour is to rise above politics and all political parties should unite on the issue."
The former UP chief minister also spoke about the attack on a Pakistani prisoner inside the high-security Kot Balwal jail in Jammu.
"We should learn from the incident. What happened in Jammu jail is not good for us. Now after Sarabjit case, we were on a strong ground and the world opinion was in our favour. But what happened in Jammu jail has weakened our stance," she said, adding that states should take concrete steps to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
The BSP leader also sought concrete efforts from the government to bring back Indians lodged in Pakistani jails.
On the Chinese incursion in Ladakh, Mayawati said the Centre should not take it lightly and take timely action, "otherwise the result will not be good."
