SP govt ban on VHP yatra an insult to Hindus: BJP

Vishwa Hindu Parishad`s (VHP) controversial Ayodhya yatra and subsequent developments paralysed Parliament on Monday with BJP and Samajwadi party (SP) members creating uproar leading to adjournment of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha twice before noon.

New Delhi: Vishwa Hindu Parishad`s (VHP) controversial Ayodhya yatra and subsequent developments paralysed Parliament on Monday with BJP and Samajwadi party (SP) members creating uproar leading to adjournment of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha twice before noon. 12.36 pm: Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 pm after uproar by Samajwadi Party MPs against attack on their office in Delhi. Lok Sabha adjourned till 2 pm. 12.30 pm: Speaking on the issue, BJP MP Yogi Adityanath said, "The UP government has insulted saints. There was no politics in the yatra." "What kind of a government is this? It bans yatra and lets go of terror suspects," the BJP MP said. "UP government gives shelters to jehadis and hurt sentiments of Hindus, so we demand the government to bring in a law for Ram temple." Yogi Adityanath said. 12.14pm: Defending the ban on VHP yatra, Mulayam Singh Yadav said, "UP govt is following the Supreme Court orders by banning yatra." "BJP doesn`t follow the constitution. We are following orders of Supreme Court. Tell me, anybody got hurt in the crackdown? No body," Singh said. "Ayodhya matter is not new, the matter is pending in the court," he said earlier. "This is plain `goondaism` of the BJP, "Mulayam said adding, "They want to garner votes though `danga` (riots)." We stopped these hooligans in 90s and will stop them again," the SP chief said. 12.10pm:The SP chief said, "Nobody has supported them (the BJP). Now they are standing alone. They don`t know what to do They want to get votes through riots." 12.13pm: Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde makes statement in Lok Sabha on the sexual assault case against spiritual leader Asaram Bapu. "The matter is with the state government. I do not have much information on this," Shinde said. 12.00 pm: Rajya Sabha resumes amid protests from the MPs. Papers are being laid on the table as the Speaker tries to make the House function. 11.50 am: Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati accused the Samajwadi Party of joining hands with the VHP over the Ayodhya Yatra saying that "no such proposal of a 84-kosi yatra came during my tenure. VHP leader had met Mulayam Singh. It surely was a joint gameplan of the VHP-SP." 11.41 am: Discussion over the Food Security Bill is likely to begin in Lok Sabha at 2:00 pm. 11.34 am: BJP leader Venkaiah Naidu slammed the Samajwadi Party and blamed them for disruption in the House. "SP came with a pre-determined plan to disrupt the house, playing cheap vote bank politics. It will boomerang on them. They are trying to divert from their failures on law and order front," Naidu said. 11.31 am: Lok Sabha has been adjourned again, minutes after it resumed at 11:30 am. 11.21 am: Rajya Sabha has been adjourned till 12:00 noon amid uproar over VHP`s Ayodhya Yatra. 11.10 am: Lok Sabha has been adjourned till 11:30 am after uproar in the House over ban on the Ayodhya Yatra by the UP government. 11.07am : Ruckus over Ayodhya Yatra in the House, SP MPs shout slogans on the floor. 11.05 am: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath speaks to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj appealing to allow the House to run. The government claims that BJP has assured them that they will allow Parliament to function. 10.45 am: BJP has given a suspension of question hour notice in Parliament over the Ayodhya issue. In the Rajya Sabha, SP members were on their feet alleging attack by BJP workers on their Delhi office, a charge strongly denied by the main opposition party. Chairman Hamid Ansari`s repeated efforts to restore normalcy in the House did not yield result. He first adjourned the House for 15 minutes and then till noon. Earlier, senior Congress leader B K Hariprasad, who was elected from Karnataka to the Upper House, took oath. In the Lok Sabha, two newly elected Congress MPs from Karnataka - actress-turned politician Ramya and D K Suresh - took oath as new members. UPA`s anti-poverty legislation, Food Security Bill is likely to be taken up in Lok Sabha today. The government has not been able to take up the Bill in the House till now due to repeated din and disruptions because of which several days of the Monsoon session have been lost. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalaitha has announced that her party the AIADMK will vote against it. She said the Bill in its present form does not help Tamil Nadu and most of her demands had not been accepted by the Central government. With PTI inputs
