Yasin Bhatkal remanded to 12-day NIA custody

A court on Friday remanded Indian Mujahideen terrorist Yasin Bhatkal and his aide Osadulla Akhtar alias Haddi to 12-day NIA custody.

New Delhi: A court here on Friday remanded Indian Mujahideen terrorist Yasin Bhatkal and his aide Osadulla Akhtar alias Haddi to 12-day NIA custody. The duo, who were nabbed from the Indo-Nepal border in Bihar yesterday, were brought to Delhi from Bihar on a special plane today. The duo were accompanied by National Investigation Agency officials. They were kept at the Bihar military police camp after they were brought to Patna from Motihari by road on Thursday night. A joint team had arrested Bhatkal and Akhtar, carrying a reward of Rs 10 lakh each, from Nahar chowk in Raxual along Indo-Nepal border, around 225 km from the capital town of Patna. Bhatkal’s arrest is the second major breakthrough for Indian agencies after the arrest of Lashkar-e-Taiba bomb expert Abdul Karim Tunda on August 16. Yasin, who co-founded IM in 2008 along with brother Riaz, is also wanted in the German Bakery bomb blast in Pune on February 13, 2010, that left 17 dead. The IM was designated a terrorist group by the Government under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in June, 2010. The banned outfit was declared by the US as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation in 2011.
