Etawah: Senior Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav on Saturday said that in matters as serious as the one concerning Asaram Bapu, action need to be taken immediately as per the law.
"Action as per the law should have been taken by now against Asaram Bapu, but why it has not been taken, why this delay," Yadav, the party`s national general secretary, who was here to distribute laptops to students, told reporters here.
"On matters as serious as this one, action should be taken immediately as per the law," Yadav said.
Asaram is accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old schoolgirl and inmate of his Jodhpur ashram.
Speaking at the laptop distribution programme, Yadav expressed serious concern over the bad shape of economy, stressing that revenue losses needed to be checked immediately or else it would pose many serious problems.
Terming unreasonable spending as a major cause for the economy`s present state, Yadav said that imports would have to be checked.
"The country has coal deposits for next 100 years, however because of the wrong policies of the government, coal worth billions of dollars has to be imported... This bad spending is having its impact on the economy," he said.
"Three year ago, a dollar was worth Rs 46 to 47 which went up to Rs 68 to 69... With this, the foreign debt has increased by 40 per cent on its own," the SP leader said.
On the occasion, more than 2,000 students were given laptops worth Rs 4.39 crores by Yadav and state`s Transport minister Durga Prasad Yadav.
