Why is Sushma Swaraj silent on Asaram issue: Digvijay Singh

Congress` Digvijay Singh accused BJP and Sushma Swaraj, asking why she was silent on rape allegations against controversial godman Asaram Bapu when she has been vocal on issue of atrocities on women.

Bhopal: Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Saturday accused BJP, in particular its leader Sushma Swaraj, of double standards, asking why she was silent on rape allegations against controversial godman Asaram Bapu when she has been vocal on the issue of atrocities on women. In a tweet, he expressed surprise as to why Swaraj, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha is "quiet" in Asaram`s case despite being the "most vocal voice" of BJP against atrocities against women.
"The most vocal voice of BJP against atrocities against women has been Sushma Swaraj. Why is she quiet in Asharam Bapu`s case", he said. "I want to know from Sushma why she has not said a word on Asaram whom a minor girl has charged with molestation," Singh said. Asaram Bapu`s image was sullied now because he was running away from the police, he said. If the spiritual leader was indeed innocent, he had no reason to hide, Digvijay added. He also denounced the attack by Asaram`s followers on media persons at Jodhpur. "Strongly condemn attack on Media by Asaram Bapu`s followers in Bhopal and Jodhpur. Why can`t he face the Rajasthan Police if he is innocent?", Singh said on the microblogging site Twitter. The self-styled godman was summoned by Rajasthan Police for questioning in connection with a case of alleged sexual assault of a minor but he did not appear before them yesterday when the deadline expired.
