Patnagarh: In a tragic incident, a groom and his grandmother were killed after a parcel bomb received by them exploded on Friday in Patnagarh in Odisha's Bolangir district.

The bride too was critically injured in the incident. The grandmother was rushed for treatment at the Bolangir hospital where she later died.

The incident took place after the family, living in Brahmapura area, opened the parcel containing the bomb.

As per Odishatv.in, the injured were taken to Patnagarh hospital initially. However, later the bride and the grandmother were shifted to the Bolangir hospital after their condition deteriorated.

Meanwhile, the groom, who was shifted to Burla hospital, too died.

As per reports, the couple, Soumya Sekhar Sahu and Reema Sahu got married on February 18, 2018. The packet was supposedly presented to the couple by an unidentified guest during their reception held on February 21, 2018.

The incident took place when they, along with other family members were unwrapping gifts on Friday. This is when one of them exploded.  The explosion was reportedly caused due to crude bomb.

Family members were quoted as saying by Odishatv.in that someone may have kept the explosives in the parcel triggering the explosion

The Bolangir police are investigating the matter. "There was no gift packet, rather a parcel bomb was received by the family," said Patnagarh SDPO.
