New Delhi: Its poetic injustice of a worse kind- the old and protected haveli of the great Urdu poet Mirza Ghalib was reportedly used to host a wedding reception on Sunday night, a daily reported on Tuesday.

The 19th century old Delhi style, located in house is a heritage building that was saved after an NGO Friends of Education filed a PIL in a decade back about how the historical place was being misused as a coal depot by the government. The Delhi govt had then went on to acquire a portion and restored it, turning into a small museum that houses articles belonging to the poet.

The daily reports that the place was used by the residents of the area to host a wedding reception on Sunday night. An activist who was passing by reported seeing a buffet with coffee machine and the floor was littered with food crumbs, plastic glasses et al.

The Archaeological Society of India (ASI), which is responsible for the upkeep of all protected monuments including this haveli, claimed not being in the know. An official, in fact, reacted with shock and said he would probe the matter.
