BJP wins Himachal Pradesh; Salman Khan’s family has a reason to celebrate

Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janta Party registered landslide victory in Himachal Pradesh on Monday and retained Gujarat, the party’s bastion for over 22 years. BJP workers celebrated the win but the party’s victory proved a reason good enough for Salman Khan’s family too to rejoice. Wondering why?

Well, here’s the answer.

Salman Khan’s youngest sibling (adopted), Arpita Khan is married to Aayush Sharma, son of a politician from Mandi, Himachal. Her father-in-law Anil Sharma contested the Himachal assembly election from Mandi with a BJP ticket.

Arpita took to Instagram to share an image of her father-in-law being cheered by his supporters after the win.

She wrote: “Congratulations dad on your landslide victory! Elated by your win thank you to all the people of Mandi for trusting him. @aaysharma @suneetasharma (sic).”

Sharma garnered 25,202 votes beating Indian National Congress party's (INC) Champa Thakur who got only 16,701 votes, reports suggest.

Former Telecom Minister Sukh Ram`s son Anil, who was a sitting cabinet minister in Virbhadra Singh-led government, joined the BJP in October this year.

After announcing his resignation from Congress, Sharma said, “I have resigned both from the party and the government owing to deliberate ignorance by the Congress in the run-up to the elections," Mr Sharma told reporters in Mandi, his home constituency.”

“Firstly, we were ignored at Rahul Gandhi's rally in Mandi and later in the constitution of election committees announced recently by the party central leadership,” he added.

Sharma was inducted into the cabinet in 2013 and was allocated portfolios of rural development and Panchayati Raj and animal husbandry. He was also minister of state from 1993-97.
