Sunny Leone’s condom ad with reference to Navratri stirs controversy in Gujarat

Mumbai: A condom ad has landed Sunny Leone in trouble! The former adult movie star-turned-Bollywood actress reportedly features in condom brand ad which reads – ‘Aa Navratri a ramo, parantu premthi’ meaning ‘This Navratri, play but with love.’

According to a report in dnaindia.com originally attributed to TOI, Leone's condom ad on the hoarding in the city of Surat has hurt the religious sentiments of the locals. The ad has irked a group that wants the hoardings to be removed.

“The message in Gujarati on the hoarding reads ‘Aa Navratri a ramo, parantu premthi’ – this Navratri, play but with love. The insinuation on the hoardings from a condom brand insults the religious sentiments of Hindus,” TOI quoted Narendra Chaudhary, a businessman who serves as the group’s leader as saying.

“This cannot be tolerated and our protests will get stronger if these hoardings are not removed immediately. Protests are necessary to deter others from trying something similar again in future,” he added.

The state of Gujarat is famous for its Navratri celebrations, a festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. People here soak in the festivities that call for dandiya and garbha dance performances on each of the nine nights.
