Sushmita is a mother to two adopted daughters - Renee and Alisah.

Sushmita stepped into the world of celluloid soon after winning the coveted Miss Universe Crown in 1994. She competed with Aishwarya Rai during the Miss India contest. Interestingly, Aishwarya won the Miss World Crown for the country in the same year.

Sushmita made her acting debut with Dastak co-starring Mukul Dev and Sharad Kapoor in 1996. Since then, she has appeared in a number of films. However, since 2010, she hasn't worked in a Hindi film. Her last Bollywood film is Anees Bazmee's 'No Problem'. Interestingly, she made her Bengali film debut in 2015 with Srijit Mukherji's 'Nirbaak' co-starring Anjan Dutt, Jisshu Sengupta and Ritwick Chakraborty.
